Searching for the Spirit of Georgia O'Keeffe

A landscape painting class with Kat at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico

"This will be my fourth summer teaching at Ghost Ranch, and I can't wait to return. The photo below was taken during a sunset painting workshop. The sky turned a fabulous purple against the orange cliffs that surround the ranch. Truly an experience that class members won't forget, and one of many over the course of the week. I highly recommend this trip for any artist interested in landscape painting."

This exciting class at Ghost Ranch , co-sponsored by the Worcester Art Museum and The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, provides you with opportunities to paint in the magnificent New Mexico landscape, while absorbing the area's rich Spanish and Pueblo cultures. Residing at Ghost Ranch, you'll have ample time to explore the nearby hills, Kitchen Mesa, and the Pedernal Peak, some of O'Keeffe's favorite painting sites. You'll also visit Santa Fe and explore its rich culture, food and art scene, and travel to Plaza Blanca, O'Keeffe's 'White Place'.

Painting in various New Mexico landscapes favored by Georgia O'Keeffe, students will learn to create strong compositional studies, preparatory sketches, and color studies for on-site works. Students will work in and should bring their preferred medium- oil paints (traditional or water soluble), acrylics, watercolor, colored pencil, or pastel, and should have a basic understanding of that medium. Course instruction will involve lectures, discussions, individual time with Kat, museum tours, and critiques.
